Senior Health Fair Planned for May 5 in Ocean Springs

Ocean Springs, MS – The annual Spring into Wellness Health Fair for area senior citizens is set for May 5, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Senior Citizens Center, 514 Washington Avenue.

Sponsored by the City of Ocean Springs, Saad Health Care, Jackson County Civic Action, Walter Anderson Museum of Art, Ocean Springs Hospital and Singing River Hospital System, the event will feature free health screenings, demonstrations, refreshments, key note speakers, bingo, door prizes, and games.  In recognition of Older Americans Month, this year’s theme is “Age Strong, Live Long!”

Speakers and topics for this year’s event include:  Vaccines for Seniors by Dr. Kristina Ray, Singing River Hospital System Clinic; Healthy Meal Program by Darnell Sanford, Systems Clinical Nutrition Manager; Safety by the Ocean Springs Police Department; Skin Care by Shirley Leikness, Cancer Outreach Educator, and Heart Health by Dr. Mahmoud Zayed, Southern Mississippi Heart Center. 

Seniors will be offered free admission to the Walter Anderson Museum of Art during the health fair.  The museum is located adjacent to the event site. Triage will provide live music.

Jackson County Civic Action will provide park and ride accommmodations beginning at 9:00 a.m., with frequent interval pick-ups at: St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 502 Jackson Avenue; First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs, 602 Washington Avenue; First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs, 921 Ocean Avenue and Little Children’s Park, Washington Avenue.

Event organizers are thankful for the many donations of door prizes and food items received from the business community.  These merchants will be recognized at the event.
