Senior Health Fair Planned for May 13 in Ocean Springs
Ocean Springs, MS – The annual Spring into Wellness Health Fair for area senior citizens is set for May 13, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Senior Citizen Center, 514 Washington Avenue.
Sponsored by the City of Ocean Springs, Saad Health Care, Jackson County Civic Action, Ocean Springs Hospital and Singing River Hospital System, the event will feature free health screenings, demonstrations, refreshments, key note speakers, bingo, door prizes, and games. In recognition of Older Americans Month, this year’s theme is “Living Today for a Better Tomorrow.”
Speakers and topics for this year’s event include: Diabetes – Elaine Coleman, RN, Coordinator, Diabetes Wellness Center, Singing River Hospital; Stroke Warning Signs – Scott Davis, Ph.D., Director of Neurosciences, Singing River Hospital System; Ocean Springs Hospital Medical Park – Dwight Rimes, Special Projects Coordinator; Safety – Detective John Flowers, Ocean Springs Police Department; Osteoporosis – Dr. Alaina Amato, Internal Medicine, Gautier Internal Medicine, and Heart Health – Dr. Mahmoud Zayed, Cardiologist, Southern Mississippi Heart Center.
Seniors will be offered free admission to the Walter Anderson Museum of Art during the health fair. The museum is located adjacent to the event site. Live music will be provided by Triage. Additional entertainment will be provided by Magnolia Swingers and Singing River Square Dancers.
Event organizations are thankful for the many donations of door prizes and food items received from the business community. These merchants will be recognized at the event.
