Roads in Ocean Springs Scheduled for Repairs Beginning Feb. 16
Ocean Springs, MS – The City of Ocean Springs will begin base repairs and asphalt overlay on eight different roads beginning Monday, February 16, thanks to a $547,000 grant from the Federal Highway Administration.
The Hurricane Katrina-related grant will repair any subgrade failures and overlay asphalt to portion of the following streets in Ocean Springs in the order scheduled to receive repair: Front Beach Drive from Jackson Avenue to Washington Avenue, Calhoun from Jackson Avenue to General Pershing, Holcomb from East Beach to Gulfview, Halstead from East Beach to Doswell, East Beach from Holcomb to Halstead, Government, 500 ft. either side of Davis Bayou Bridge and 500 ft. either side of Heron Bayou Bridge, and Hanshaw Road, 500 ft. either side of Davis Bayou Drive.
“This project will allow us to overlay those city streets that were inundated in Hurricane Katrina,” said Andre’ Kaufman, Director of Public Works, City of Ocean Springs. “This cost was not eligible under FEMA guidelines, and we are pleased that the Federal Highway Administration has stepped to the plate. Based on weather conditions, the project should take 8 to 10 working days to complete.”
Public Works does not anticipate any disruption in mail or garbage collection. Public Work officials are coordinating with emergency personnel and the school transportation department to ensure safety for travelers during the project. Alternate routes during repair work should be considered by motorists to avoid delays.
