OSPD to Enforce Safety on Front and East Beaches

Ocean Springs, Ms – With warmer days approaching, human and vehicle traffic have increased on Front Beach and East Beach.  As an added safety precaution on the beaches, Captain William Jackson, OSPD Traffic Division, would like to remind citizens of the beach rules posted in two location on Front Beach:

  • parking hours 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.
  • park with the flow of traffic
  • after hours parking for fishing (permit required) designated areas only
  • bon fires (permit required) designated areas only
  • no glass allowed, aluminum cans on seawall only
  • all animals – dogs, cats, etc. must be on a leash
  • no loud noise-Ordinance No. 14-2007
  • no camping (over night)
  • no commercial venders without permits
  • one way traffic from Friday midnight through Sunday midnight*
  • *In an effort to better accommodate area boaters, Front Beach Drive is a one-way road from midnight Friday to midnight Sunday from Porter Avenue to Jackson Avenue.
  • All permits may be obtained from the Ocean Springs Police Department, 228-875-2211.

In addition to the posted beach rules on Front Beach, Capt. Jackson has noticed that vehicles are parking against the flow of traffic on East Beach.  Citizens should park in designated areas only along the sea wall.  Signage is in place for no parking areas.
