OS StreetScape Project Moves to Government & MLK Intersection

Ocean Springs, MS – Construction for the city’s Downtown StreetScape Project will move to the intersection of Government Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue on Wednesday, December 2.  While business hours of merchants located in that area will not be affected by construction, motorists should prepare to take a detour as directed by street signs.

Road improvements at the intersection of Government and MLK are expected to take approximately 7 weeks.  Improvements to the area include new cross walks, pedestrian lane, and making all sidewalks in the area ADA compliant.

The Depot parking lot makeover was the starting point for the city’s $4.6 million Downtown StreetScape Project, funded by a Community Development Block Grant.  The project will bring landscaping, improved sidewalks, brick pavers, curbing, lighting, buried utility cables, and approximately 70 trees, varying in heights of 15 and 35 ft. to the city’s downtown area.  The project is expected to be completed by this summer.
