OS Historical Committee Announces d’Iberville Landing Celebration
Ocean Springs, MS – The 1699 Historical Committee announces the return of the Celebration of the Landing of Pierre Le Moyne Sieur d’Iberville on Sunday, April 26 at 1 p.m. on Front Beach Drive near Fort Maurepas.
Prior to the landing, a 10:15 a.m. special Mass will be given at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 502 Jackson Avenue.
This year’s event will feature live entertainment in addition to the pageantry of the landing. The identity of d’Iberville is kept secret and revealed shortly before the 2009 landing. Members of the landing party are drawn from the citizenry of Ocean Springs.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase from vendors at the event.
Sylvia Spratley of Ocean Springs has been tapped to lead the organization for 2009. The next meeting of the 1699 Historical Committee will be April 6, 7 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Senior Citizen Center, 514 Washington Avenue. The 1699 Historical Committee meets the first Monday of each month.
Everyone is encouraged to come and enjoy the pageantry of the landing and preserve the history of Ocean Springs on Sunday, April 26.
