OS Aldermen Award Bid to Begin Construction on Alice Street Tennis Courts

Ocean Springs, MS – At Tuesday night’s City of Ocean Springs Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting, elected officials awarded a $754,800 bid to Cal-Mar Construction Co. of Jackson for eight tennis courts with lights and amenities at Alice Street Park.

The project will replace five existing tennis courts with eight United States Tennis Association regulated courts.

Funding for the project was provided with $450,000 from the 2% sales tax on restaurants and lounges passed by 66% of voters in December 2007, $250,000 from the Jackson County Board of Supervisors, and $54,800 from the city’s Parks & Leisure Services budget.

“We hope to attract tennis tournaments to our community,” said Mayor Connie Moran.  “This new facility will be utilized by both children and adults.”

“We graciously thank the tax payers and Jackson County for their support in financing this project,” said Geri Straight, Director of Parks & Leisure Services.  “We will soon have state-of-the-art tennis courts that all citizens can be proud of and enjoy.”
