Ocean Springs Hosts MS Gulf Coast Community Forestry Workshop

Ocean Springs, MS – Tree enthusiasts are encouraged to attend the Trees and Our Community, MS Gulf Coast Community Forestry Workshop, hosted by the City of Ocean Springs and the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center on May 25, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center, 1600 Government Street.  There is no registration cost for the program.

Continuing education hours for landscaping architects, foresters, engineers, elected officials, parks and recreation, planners, Urban Forest Masters, arborists, and others can be received by attending the workshop.  Funding is provided by an Urban & Community Forestry Grant from the MS Forestry Commission, in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the Southern Group of State Foresters.  MML members receive two credits.  The program is also part of the Urban Forest Masters training.

Topics for the day-long workshop include:  Hazard Trees, Repair or Replace; Planting Trees for Maximum Benefits; Right Tree, Right Place; Protecting Trees During Construction; Preparedness and Caring for Trees After A Storm, and Comprehensive Green Planning.
