Ocean Springs Declares Local Emergency in Preparation for Possible Oil Spill Damage

Ocean Springs, MS – At tonight’s meeting, the Mayor and the Board of Aldermen of the City of Ocean Springs approved a “Declaration of Local Emergency” in advance of a possible oil slick and resulting damage. The declaration allows city agencies and departments to begin discharging their emergency responsibilities as stated in the city’s emergency operations plan. By declaring the existence of a local emergency, the city may provide for the health and safety of the citizens and the protection of property.
