Ocean Springs, MS – Traffic will soon flow faster on Hwy. 90/Bienville Boulevard thanks to upgrades installed today by MDOT traffic control crews.

According to Edward Raymond, MDOT Traffic Engineer, a new wireless vehicle detection system is being installed.  The new system sends a wireless signal to the traffic control cabinet based on the number of vehicles approaching a given intersection.

“This is replacing the former system that was no longer working adequately; it will create a much better flow of traffic for the area,” said Raymond.

“The City welcomes these improvements to ease Hwy. 90 traffic congestion,” said Mayor Connie Moran. “We have been in touch with MDOT on this project for over a year and are please they approved installation of this latest signal technology in Ocean Springs.”

Intersections on Hwy. 90 receiving the new equipment are: Holcomb, Bechtel, Bristol, Fort Bayou Estates entrance, Ocean Springs Road (hospital road), and Hwy. 57.  MDOT is also retiming all traffic control signals on Highway 90.  Work is expected to be completed by next week pending no equipment problems.
