Mary C. Offers Scrimshaw, Whaler’s Art, Class

Ocean Springs, MS – The Ocean Springs Museum of History is offering Scrimshaw, the Whaler’s Art, in a lecture and two day workshop beginning March 11.  The lecture and workshop will be offered at the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Arts Center, 1600 Government Street.

On March 11, 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., Georgia artist James Mitchell will lecture on the ancient art form.  Mitchell has been a custom knifemaker for more than 30 years and has added Scrimshaw to his knives as another way to create true one-of-a-kind pieces for collectors and knife users.  The cost to attend the lecture is $10.

On March 12 and 13, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., a workshop on the art form will be offered.  Cost for the workshop is $250.  All tools and materials will be provided.
