JC Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day, Nov. 14

Ocean Springs, MS – A one day event for the proper disposal of household hazardous waste in Jackson County has been set for Saturday, November 14, 8 a.m. – 12/noon at the Singing River Mall parking lot, Highway 90, in Gautier.

Jackson County residents are encouraged to bring unused or left over portions of products containing toxic chemicals to the event site for proper disposal.  Products should be left in their original containers.  Event sponsors urge citizens to make sure the containers are sealed to prevent leakage.  These products should be placed in a trunk or in the back of a vehicle away from passengers while transporting.  Residents should not transport over five gallons or 50 pounds at one time.

Items that will NOT be accepted for household hazardous waste disposal are explosive materials, radioactive materials, PCBs, medical waste, syringes, business waste, and/or compressed cylinders.

Up to five used tires may be transported to Seaman Road Landfill for disposal.

The event is sponsored by the MS Department of Environmental Quality in partnership with the Jackson County Board of Supervisors, Jackson County Municipalities and the Jackson County Solid Waste Department.  For more information, contact Jackson County Solid Waste Department at 228-872-8340.
