Dedication Ceremony for Mosaic Bridge Panels Set for May 15
Ocean Springs, MS – The public is invited to join MDOT and city officials in a dedication ceremony for the Mosaic Bridge Panels on Friday, May 15, at 3:30 p.m. at the panels’ site, adjacent to the Biloxi Bay Bridge and the Ocean Springs Yacht Club.
On April 21, mosaic artist Elizabeth Veglia installed the last of the four panels. Ocean Springs artists Susie Ranager, Ching Walters, Chris Stebly, and Patt Odom were chosen in spring of 2008 to have their work combined into an overall scene rendered in mosaic by Ms. Veglia, who has created mosaic murals along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, including the Ocean Springs Civic Center and the memorials for Hurricane Camille and Hurricane Katrina.
In 2008, the City of Ocean Springs received funding from MDOT for the design and production of the four free standing decorative panels. Currently, MDOT, in cooperation with the City of Ocean Springs Planning and Community Development Department, is in the process of improving the area near the bridge panels with landscaping, benches and stretching equipment for bridge walkers.
