Community Hero Award Given to OS Third Grader
Ocean Springs, MS- Payton Engel, a third grader at Pecan Park Elementary in Ocean Springs, has received a Community Hero Award from the Ocean Springs Fire Department.
Miss Payton donated over 50 stuffed animals to be given to children who have experienced a traumatic event, such as a car accident or fire. The Ocean Springs Fire Department has placed the stuffed animals in fire trucks in the event of an emergency involving a child.
“Payton’s gift to the children of this community who may be in an emergency situation is both compassionate and generous,” said Patrick Williams, Fire Chief, Ocean Springs Fire Department. “Children who experience trauma can be comforted by the gift of a stuffed animal.”
Sparky, the Fire Dog of the Ocean Springs Fire Department presents Payton Engel with a Community Hero Award.
