Officers and council members for this year’s Mayor’s Youth Council are: Sara Del Castillo, President; David Bella, Vice President; Jennifer Ladner, Secretary; April Love, Historian; Kellie Jones, Community Service Chair; Kaitlyn Abney, Cameron Alsgood, Zoey-Marie Ango, Gabrielle Brou, Alyce Calkins, Ashley Culberson, Melissa Dent, Jeffrey Farrington, Cheltzi Frazier, Taylor Freeman, Morgan Gollott, Katie Huang, Britney Kuehn, Natalie Mangum, Steven Mockler, Christopher Sison, Robert Thresher, Maura Trochessett, Amanda Williams, and Sadie Wood.

De’Erica Ward and Deetra Louis, members of last year’s council and current college students, will serve as senior advisors for the group.  Johnnie Bernhard, Public Relations Administrative Officer for the City, serves as the group’s facilitator.  East Beach Specialties and United States Marine, Inc. also serve as sponsors of this year’s council.

At the council’s initial meeting, members met with Mayor Moran and departments heads.  The group discussed current city projects, youth issues, and the responsibilities of several city departments.

“The City is proud to sponsor the youth council,” said Mayor Moran. “The aldermen and I intend to provide a forum for our youth in leadership training and community activism.  Our initial meeting clearly showed that these students are passionate about issues affecting youth in our community.”

The Mayor’s Youth Council will lead the “Pledge of Allegiance” at the October 20 Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting at City Hall.
