MAYOR AND BOARD OF ALDERMEN
CITY OF OCEAN SPRINGS

SPECIAL CALL MEETING OCTOBER 10, 2008

 

 

Be it remembered that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Ocean Springs met in a Special Call Meeting at City Hall in the City of Ocean Springs at 8:00 a.m. on October 10, 2008.  Mayor Pro Tem Denyer presiding, Aldermen Gill, McDonnell, Lloyd, Weaver and Dalgo were present.  Also present was City Clerk Shelly Ferguson.  Mayor Moran and Aldermen Hagan were absent.      

 

Mayor Pro Tem Denyer called the meeting to order.

 

The Special Call Meeting is for the purpose of any and all matters pertaining to authorizing Mayor to execute Memorandum of Understanding for REACH Mississippi Program and Executive Session – Litigation Concerning School Taxes.        

 

Motion was made by Alderman Gill, seconded by Alderman Weaver and unanimously carried to authorize the Mayor to execute the Memorandum of Understanding for REACH Mississippi Program and set the criteria as follows: Employee must have been employed for at least two (2) years prior to application; commitment of four years retention with the City; be in good standing – someone not on disciplinary probation or suspended with or without pay at the time of the application or award.     

 

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

 

Motion was made by Alderman Gill, seconded by Alderman McDonnell and unanimously carried to go into closed session to determine the necessity of going into executive session. 

 

The City Clerk returned to the meeting and announced that a motion was made by Alderman Weaver, seconded by Alderman Gill and unanimously carried to remain in executive session to discuss possible litigation concerning school taxes. 

 

Motion was made by Alderman Dalgo, seconded by Alderman Gill and unanimously carried to come out of executive session and return to regular session. 

 

Motion was made by Alderman Weaver, seconded by Alderman Dalgo and unanimously carried to authorize to support the Jackson County Board of Supervisors’ request to join them in defending a law suit filed by the City of Pascagoula in its attempt to overthrow Senate Bill 2403 and make a public statement in support of the County’s position.      

 

Motion was made by Alderman Gill, seconded by Alderman McDonnell and unanimously carried to adjourn the special call meeting.
