MAYOR AND BOARD OF ALDERMEN
CITY OF OCEAN SPRINGS
SPECIAL CALL MEETING JUNE 27, 2007
Be it remembered that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Ocean Springs met in a Special Call Meeting at City Hall in the City of Ocean Springs at 5:30 p.m. on June 27, 2007. Mayor Pro Tempore Weaver presiding, Aldermen Gill, McDonnell, Lloyd, Denyer, Dalgo and Hagan were present. Also present was Deputy City Clerk Mindy McDowell.
Mayor Pro Tempore Weaver called the meeting to order.
The Special Call Meeting is for the purpose of any and all matters pertaining to Alderman’s Forum and an Executive Session for interviews for the position of Police Chief and any other personnel issues.
ALDERMAN’S FORUM
Motion was made by Alderman Denyer, seconded by Alderman McDonnell and unanimously carried to appoint Angela Alston Ross to the Planning Commission.
Alderman Denyer announced that there will be a work day at the new toddler park on the grounds of Pecan Park Elementary School on August 3, 2007.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Motion was made by Alderman McDonnell, seconded by Alderman Dalgo and unanimously carried to go into closed session to determine the necessity of going into executive session.
Motion was made by Alderman McDonnell, seconded by Alderman Hagan and unanimously carried to remain in executive session to conduct three interviews for the position of Police Chief.
Human Resources/Risk Manager Melessa Bryant and Civil Service Commissioners Denise Jones and Wally Page were in attendance. Mayor Moran arrived during Executive Session at 6:00 p.m.
Motion was made by Alderman Gill and seconded by Alderman Dalgo to come out of executive session and return to regular session. Motion carried with Aldermen Gill, McDonnell, Lloyd, Weaver, Denyer and Dalgo voting aye and Alderman Hagan voting nay.
Motion was made by Alderman McDonnell, seconded by Alderman Dalgo and unanimously carried to go into closed session to determine the necessity of going into executive session.
Motion was made by Alderman McDonnell, seconded by Alderman Hagan and unanimously carried to remain in executive session to discuss the position of Police Chief.
Motion was made by Alderman Weaver, seconded by Alderman Dalgo and unanimously carried to come out of executive session and return to regular session.
Motion was made by Alderman McDonnell, seconded by Alderman Dalgo and unanimously carried to appoint Lionel Cothern as the Police Chief which is a permanent position, at his current salary, effective tonight with a six month probationary period.
Motion was made by Alderman Denyer, seconded by Alderman McDonnell and unanimously carried to adjourn the special call meeting.
