MINUTES
MAYOR AND BOARD OF ALDERMEN
CITY OF OCEAN SPRINGS
RECESS MEETING OF JUNE 25, 2009
Be it remembered that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Ocean Springs met in a Recess meeting at City Hall in the City of Ocean Springs at 5:30 p.m. on June 25, 2009. Mayor Moran presiding, Aldermen Gill, McDonnell, Lloyd, Denyer, Dalgo and Hagan were present. Also present were City Attorney John Edwards and City Clerk Shelly Ferguson. Aldermen Weaver was absent.
The Mayor called the meeting to order.
Alderman Denyer gave the invocation and the Mayor led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion was made by Alderman Denyer, seconded by Alderman McDonnell and unanimously carried to accept items 4, 6 and 8 on the Agenda.
Motion was made by Alderman Dalgo, seconded by Alderman McDonnell and unanimously carried to authorize the Mayor to send a letter requesting the Jackson County Board of Supervisors to make improvements to Harbor Drive.
Motion was made by Alderman McDonnell, seconded by Alderman Hagan and unanimously carried to authorize the Mayor to request the Jackson County Board of Supervisors to adopt similar resolution to the City’s Tax Abatement Ordinance during their July 6th meeting.
Motion was made by Alderman Dalgo, seconded by Alderman Hagan and unanimously carried to enforce parking along East Beach along the sea wall facing easterly; enforce one-way traffic from Shearwater Drive to Halstead Road beginning at 5 p.m. until 11 p.m. on July 4th only and post beach rules at both ends of East Beach.
Motion was made by Alderman Hagan and seconded by Alderman Gill to adopt Ordinance No. 2009-16 An Ordinance Setting Salaries of the Board of Aldermen of the City of Ocean Springs and thereby Amending Ordinance No. 1-2001, et.al. (Exhibit 3). The motion passed with a roll call vote as follows:

Motion was made by Alderman McDonnell, seconded by Alderman Dalgo and unanimously carried to authorize up to $5,000.00 from Ward 2 Capital Improvement Account to purchase 100 – 8 foot galvanized steel bicycle barricades to be housed at the Public Works Department for use throughout the City for various festivals, events and traffic control.
Motion was made by Alderman Hagan, seconded by Alderman Denyer and unanimously carried to authorize up to $11,425.00 from Ward 6 Capital Improvement Account to purchase 100 – 3’ wooden barricades; remainder of galvanized barricades and 30” excavator brush flail with bobcat attachment.
Motion was made by Alderman Denyer, seconded by Alderman Hagan and unanimously carried to authorize $1,000.00 from Ward 4 Capital Improvement Account for City Museum at the Mary C. O’ Keefe Cultural Center and $1,000.00 towards balance of the barricades.
Alderman Gill announced that Mississippi Department of Transportation will be sweeping and repairing potholes along Highway 90.
Motion was made by Alderman Hagan, seconded by Alderman Dalgo and unanimously carried to adjourn until 6:00 p.m. on July 7, 2009.
