MAYOR AND BOARD OF ALDERMEN
CITY OF OCEAN SPRINGS
RECESS MEETING OF AUGUST 24, 2009
Be it remembered that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Ocean Springs met in a Recess meeting at City Hall in the City of Ocean Springs at 5:30 p.m. on August 24, 2009. Mayor Moran presiding, Aldermen Gill, McDonnell, Cody, Denyer and Hagan were present. Also present was City Clerk Shelly Ferguson. Alderman Ross and Dalgo were absent.
Alderman Cody led the invocation and the Mayor led Pledge of Allegiance.
Public Comments
Ms. Margaret Miller spoke on behalf of the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce and reported on the advertising efforts of the Chamber.
Dr. Mark Mauldin spoke on behalf of the Boys and Girls Club and reported on the benefits of organization.
Ms. Carol Jones spoke on behalf of the Parktown East Civic Association and asked for funding in the upcoming budget for paving of Deana and Groveland Roads;, cleaning of ditches due to overgrowth and additional funding to enforce the junk vehicle ordinance.
Mr. Bill Gregory spoke on behalf of the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center and reported that all rooms were completed and renovated with the exception of the office.
The City Clerk gave an overview of the FY2009-2010 budget and the recommendations made by the Finance Committee. She reported that the millage would remain the same and a 5% pay raise was proposed.
Alderman Ross arrives at the meeting at 6:20 p.m.
Motion was made by Alderman Cody, seconded by Alderman Denyer and unanimously carried to authorize payment of registration fees of $420.00 for Aaron Cox for the 34th Annual South Mississippi Water Supply & Pollution Control Short Course.
Motion was made by Alderman Gill, seconded by Alderman Cody and unanimously carried to authorize fireworks at the Fort Maurepas ribbon cutting on October 24, 2009.
Motion was made by Alderman Hagan, seconded by Alderman Gill and unanimously carried to adjourn the meeting until 6:00 p.m. on September 1, 2009.
Meeting ended at 7:58 p.m.
