The 22nd Annual Cruisin’ the Coast returns to the City of Ocean Springs

Cruisin’ the Coast is returning to Ocean Springs October 4-6. The coast-wide event will be from September 30 – October 7.

Certain streets will be closed from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm on Thursday, 7:00 am – 12:00 am on Friday, and from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm on Saturday. The barricades will be placed Thursday morning starting at 6:00 am.  Any vehicles within the footprint of the event at 5:30 am will be towed by 7:00 am.  Towing will be a measure of last resort, and the City of Ocean Springs will only do so once all measures of contacting a vehicle’s owner have been exhausted.  As always, it is at the discretion of local law enforcement as to whether it is in the interest of the public’s safety to add or remove a barricade.

Only official Cruisin’ the Coast golf carts will be allowed within the footprint of the event.

The following streets will be closed:

-Washington Avenue (from the railroad to Joseph Street)

    -Government Street to Handy Avenue

-Church Street (from the railroad to Desoto Street)

-Robinson Avenue (from Cash Alley to Church Street)

-Desoto Street (from Cash Alley to Church Street)

-Porter Avenue (from Bellande Avenue to Jackson Avenue)

-Calhoun Street will be one-way (from Washington Avenue to Jackson Avenue)

Roads will reopen at the discretion of the Ocean Springs Police Department.

Handicap parking for the event will be available in the East City Hall parking lot. Public parking will be available at the Swingster property. The Pleasant’s BBQ parking lot will be closed to the public for the duration of the event.

Ocean Springs School District buses will run as normal.  Parents will have to walk to pick up and drop off their students at the following bus stops on Thursday and Friday:

    -Kotzum Avenue and Porter Avenue

    -Russell Avenue and Porter Avenue

    -Porter Avenue and Dewey Avenue

    -Porter Avenue and Jackson Avenue

    -Government Street and Ward Avenue

-Porter Avenue and General Pershing Avenue

The recommended route to St. Alphonsus is to approach Jackson Avenue from the west, using Calhoun Street.  Parents should then exit north on Jackson Avenue.  A south turn on Jackson would lead into festival route.  Law enforcement and school personnel will be available to assist children entering and exiting the school.

Car registration will begin at 9:00 am every morning. The entertainment stage will be located at Rosetti Park. The full entertainment schedule can be found at www.cruisinthecoast.com.

The Sock Hop & Street Party set for Friday, October 5, will begin at 5:00 pm. Performers will include The Molly Ringwalds, The Big Easy Boys and American Elvis Tribute Artist Eugene Eash. The winners of the Chick’s Picks car contest will be announced by Elvis just before The Molly Ringwalds take the stage.

"This year’s Cruisin’ the Coast is expected to be larger than ever,” said Chic Cody, Event Coordinator. "Our town has so much to offer attendees:  a beautiful downtown, top-of-the-line entertainment, and all of the cuisine one can imagine.  We encourage one and all to come and discover it for themselves!”
