Scheduled Road Closures and Status for the Porter Avenue Infrastructure Improvement Project
As of Monday, May 14, 2018, CenterPoint completed the relocation of the gas main that was previously in conflict with the ongoing construction activity. Construction work associated with the roadway improvements has resumed. Everyone is encouraged to use caution when traveling through the construction area and to be mindful of workers and machinery both on and off the road.
Starting Monday, May 21st and continuing for up to two weeks, Porter Avenue will be CLOSED between the intersections of AZALEA DRIVE and MARTIN AVENUE. While the full closure is an inconvenience, it will allow for the necessary construction activities in this area to proceed in a safe and expedited fashion, therefore shortening the overall construction time.
This closure will allow the contractor to safely install new storm drain and water mains. Attention should be given to any DETOUR and ROAD CLOSED signage in the area. Caution is encouraged throughout the construction area for everyone including motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Construction activity started in December 2017. With the recent utility delays, work is expected to continue through early summer 2018. This work will improve sidewalk connections on Porter Avenue west of Martin Avenue. The $1.2 million project is funded with state and local funds.
