Porter Avenue Infrastructure Improvement Project
Following the previous discovery of an unmarked Natural Gas line, work on the Porter Avenue project has continued to be suspended to allow the gas main to be relocated. The relocation must be done to avoid conflicts with water and sewer mains and services and must be completed before the project can continue and will reduce future utility conflicts in the area that could hinder maintenance or future improvements.
According to CenterPoint, the work is expected to begin either later this week or the first of next week. The anticipated duration of the CenterPoint activity is 2-4 weeks once started. Road work will resume immediately after completion.
During this time, maintenance on the road will continue. If you have any questions, please call Neel-Schaffer at 228-374-1211.
Construction activity started in December 2017. With the current utility delays, work is expected to continue through early summer 2018. This work will improve sidewalk connections on Porter Avenue west of Martin Avenue. The $1.2 million project is funded by with state and local funds. Caution is encouraged throughout the construction area for everyone including motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. Attention should be given to any DETOUR and ROAD CLOSED signage in the area.
