Porter Avenue Infrastructure Improvement Project
Due to the discovery of an unmarked Natural Gas line, work on the Porter Avenue project will be suspended over the next several weeks while the gas main is relocated. The line will be moved by CenterPoint to avoid conflicts with water and sewer mains and services. This work must be completed before the project can continue and will reduce future utility conflicts in the area that could hinder maintenance or future improvements. The projected timeline provided by CenterPoint for completion of the utility work is 3-4 weeks with road work resume
afterwards. During this time, maintenance on the road will continue. If you have any questions, please call Neel-Schaffer at 228-374-1211.
Construction activity started in December 2017 and is expected to continue through late Spring 2018. This work will improve sidewalk connections on Porter Avenue west of Martin Avenue. The $1.2 million project is funded by with state and local funds. Caution is encouraged throughout the construction area for everyone including motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. Attention should be given to any DETOUR and ROAD CLOSED signage in the area
