    Ocean Springs To RESCHEDULE Public Hearing for Adoption of the Unified Development Code 

    Ocean Springs, MS. – Due to the need to prepare for impending TS Gordon, the public hearing for the UDC has been RESCHEDULED to TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2018.  Written input is now due by Wednesday, September 19th by 5 pm for inclusion in the presentation. 

    Following public meetings held April 12th and 19th, the DRAFT of the Unified Development Code (UDC) was updated May 14, 2018, and made available for comment on the city’s website at the web address listed at the bottom of this release.   
    Following review of comments received, the UDC had been scheduled for Public Hearing in front of the Planning Commission on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at 6:00pm, but has now been rescheduled to Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 6:00pm.  The hearing will still be held at the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center – 1600 Government Street in Ocean Springs. 

    Written comments will continue to be accepted on the most current DRAFT document.  In order to be provided to the Planning Commission prior to the hearing, the new date for all comments must be received in the Planning Department no later than 5pm, Wednesday, September 19, 2018.

    The purpose of the UDC is to consolidate and replace the current Zoning Ordinance Code and Subdivision Regulations that were first adopted in 1984.  The UDC will update, streamline, and clarify these land development regulations while incorporating lessons learned and current development and regulatory issues.  Elements of the UDC include but are not limited to : Zoning and subdivision regulations; development review procedures; landscaping and design standards; stormwater and floodplain management; roads and sidewalks; utility standards and the public approval process for development. 
    City residents and those that do business with the City are encouraged to review the Draft UDC and participate in the review and Public Hearing process.
