Little Children’s Park in Ocean Springs is Seeking Funds for new accessible equipment
Ocean Springs – The City of Ocean Springs and Disability Connection are working together to ensure that kids and adults with and without disabilities are included in playground activities.
The City of Ocean Springs received a $30,000 play space grant from the National Recreation and Park Association and the Walt Disney Company. The investment supports NRPA and Disney’s combined goal of providing one million kids and families with greater access to play.
Disability Connection is preparing to host a community playground build. Organizations and individuals who would like to be part of this worthy community project can contact Disability Connection in the Ocean Springs City Hall, (228) 870-7775, or email Office@DisabilityConnection.org. Assistance is needed with matching funds, materials, and volunteer labor or if you would like to donate to this project, you can do so here: https://www.gofundme.com/LittleChildrensPark.
In 2012, Disability Connection recognized the need for accessible playgrounds for the Gulf Coast. Now, with the support of the City of Ocean Springs, Disability Connection is partnering to develop Little Children’s Park Playground as an accessible playground for Jackson County. Janie O’Keefe, Director of Disability Connection, says "The City is working with us to install 4 new pieces of accessible equipment so that children with and without disabilities, and especially those in wheelchairs, can play together.”
Disability Connection is dedicated to "creating a connected community to provide social support, ensure healthy futures, eliminate barriers, and foster cooperation and understanding for people with disabilities.”
