    Minutes - October 7, 2017 - 2:30 p.m. Special Call Meeting

    SPECIAL CALL MEETING OCTOBER 7, 2017 

    Be it remembered that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Ocean Springs met in a Special Call Meeting at the Emergency Operations Center in the City of Ocean Springs at 2:30 p.m. on October 7, 2017. Mayor Dobson presiding, Aldermen Cox, Gill, Authement, Bellman, Papania, Blackman, and Impey were present.  Also present was City Clerk Shelly Ferguson, City Attorney Kevin Melchi, and Brooks McKay from the Ocean Springs School District.

    The Mayor called the meeting to order.

    The Special Call Meeting is for the purpose of any and all matters pertaining to Hurricane Nate.

    The EOC Director, Nate Wilson, gave an update on the latest information regarding Hurricane Nate.

    The Police Department will have double shifts tonight and tomorrow.     

    The Fire Department is calling in the morning shift tonight at 6:00 p.m. to ensure they can get to the fire department and in case they are needed during the night.

    A curfew will be in effect from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. tonight.

    The Police Department will have (2) two officers stationed at Beaugez Station and (2) two stationed at Central Station.  

    The eye of the storm is expected to be over land at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday.

    The Parks Department shut all the parks at 12:00 p.m. today.

    Public Works is bringing in crews at 5:00 p.m.

    Public Works has a backhoe stationed at Freedom Field and one on the other side of town.

    There are (2) two portable generators for whichever lift station goes out first.

    All water wells have generators.

    Marine Mart evacuated all his building and other equipment.

    Troy Ross, County Supervisor, arrives at the meeting at 2:44 p.m.

    The county has (6) six high water rescue vehicles, (3) three are stationed at Fountainbleau.

    There are over 100 people in shelters now.

    Motion was made by Alderman Impey, seconded by Alderman Cox and unanimously carried to ratify the declaration of emergency that was issued Thursday, October 5th at 4:00 p.m.

    Motion was made by Alderman Blackman, seconded by Alderman Impey and unanimously carried to adjourn the meeting.

    The meeting ended at 3:07 p.m.
