    Minutes - May 16, 2019 - 5:30 p.m. - Special Call Meeting

    SPECIAL CALL MEETING MAY 16, 2019


    Be it remembered that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Ocean Springs met in a Special Call meeting at City Hall in the City of Ocean Springs at 5:30 p.m. on May 16, 2019.  The Mayor presiding, Aldermen Gill, Authement, Papania and Impey were present. Absent were Aldermen Bellman and Blackman. Also present was Deputy City Clerk Vicky Hupe. City Clerk Patty Gaston joined the meeting at 5:43 p.m.

    The Mayor called the meeting to order.

    The Special Call Meeting is for the purpose of any and all matters pertaining to conducting interviews of potential candidates for the vacant Building Official position and discussion of a salary scale.

    Motion was made by Alderman Impey, seconded by Alderman Cox and unanimously carried to go into closed session to determine the necessity of going into executive session.

    Motion was made by Alderman Impey, seconded by Alderman Cox and unanimously carried to remain in executive session to conduct interviews for the vacant Building Official Positon.

    Motion was made by Alderman Cox, seconded by Alderman Papania and unanimously carried to come out of executive session.

    Alderman Authement stepped out of boardroom at 5:58 p.m.

    Motion was made by Alderman Cox, seconded by Alderman Impey and unanimously carried to preform the pre-employment process for James Leahy.

    The Mayor called a break at 6:05 p.m.

    The Mayor resumed the meeting at 6:17 p.m.

    The City Clerk discussed the proposed salary scale regarding the budget including increases in PERS and health insurance. The Human Resource Director discussed the proposed salary scale in comparison to other cities of similar size along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

    The Public Works Director, the Parks and Recreation Director and the Fire Chief expressed their concerns and needs.

    Alderman Authement stepped out of board room at 6:55 p.m. and returned at 6:59 p.m.
    Alderman Gill stepped out of board room at 7:24 p.m. and returned at 7:28 p.m.

    The Mayor said he will schedule a work session with the departments and Aldermen to further discuss the salary scale and their concerns.

    Motion was made by Alderman Authement, seconded by Alderman Papania and unanimously carried to adjourn the Special Call meeting.

    The meeting ended at 7:34 p.m.
