SPECIAL CALL MEETING
OF MARCH 9, 2018
it remembered that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Ocean Springs
met in a Special Call meeting at City Hall in the City of Ocean Springs at 4:30
p.m. on March 9, 2018. The Mayor presiding,
Aldermen Cox, Authement, Bellman, Papania, Blackman, and Impey were
present. Also present was Deputy City
Clerk Janice Hilton and City Attorney Kevin Melchi. Alderman Gill was absent.
purpose of the Special Call Meeting is to discuss any and all matters
pertaining to planning for downtown crowds on St. Patrick’s Day and a hazardous
tree on Pittman Road.
Mayor asked the Building Official about the hazardous tree on Pittman
Road. The Building Official said he received
a call from Public Works who spoke to some neighbors which had concerns about
this dead water oak tree. The trunk is
on private property but it extends out over the City’s right-of-way. The Building Official said the most severe
part of the tree is at the mid-point where it bends. The Building Official stated if we go ahead
and trim the top portion out of the right-of-way we are leaving a completely dead
portion of the tree extending above it. The Building Official is concerned about leaving the dead portion of the
tree with the rain coming in. The
Building Official recommends the City remove the dead water oak tree and let
the homeowners be responsible for the removal of the stump. The homeowner is willing to give the City a
right-of-entry to cut the tree down.
made by Alderman Blackman, seconded by Alderman Impey and unanimously carried
to move forward with the removal of the hazardous, dead, water oak tree on
Pittman Road as shown by the Building Official in photographs contingent upon
securing the right-of-entry from the homeowner.
Mayor said he has received some requests to close Government Street from
Washington Avenue to Russell Avenue to include the following streets Bellande,
Kotzum, and Cash Alley on St. Patrick’s Day.
made by Alderman Authement, seconded by Alderman Blackman and unanimously
carried to close Government Street from Washington Avenue to Russell Avenue
from 6:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. for St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday, March 17,
made by Alderman Impey, seconded by Alderman Blackman and unanimously carried
to adjourn the meeting.
meeting ended at 4:38 p.m.
