City of Ocean Springs

Minutes - January 15, 2020 Special Call Meeting

Be it remembered that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Ocean Springs met in a Special Call meeting at Butler Snow, 1020 Highland Colony Parkway, Jackson, Mississippi on January 15, 2020 at 2:30 p.m.  The Mayor presiding, Aldermen Gill, Authement, Papania and Blackman were present. Aldermen Cox, Bellman and Impey were absent. Also present were City Clerk Patty Gaston and City Attorney Nicole Sullivan.

Let the minutes reflect that proper notice of the meeting was provided to all Aldermen via email and that the notice was posted at City Hall and online within one hour of the meeting being called.

The Mayor called the meeting to order.

The Special Call Meeting is for the purpose of any and all matters pertaining to a special session for Butler Snow attorney, Troy Johnston, to do a presentation to the Board of Aldermen regarding potential Tax Increment Financing (TIF) projects.

Butler Snow attorneys, Troy Johnston, Parker Berry and Sam Noblin, and government consultants, Steve Pittman and Jamie Holloway, discussed the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) process and the tools it offers the City for Economic Development regarding infrastructure projects for public and private development. The Aldermen are considering updating the City Comprehensive/General Plan and developing a Redevelopment Plan; both would prepare the City to move forward if an opportunity arises.

The Mayor thanked Butler Snow for hosting the training session.

Motion was made by Alderman Blackman, seconded by Alderman Papania and unanimously carried to adjourn the Special Call meeting.

The meeting ended at 3:40 p.m.
